Abstract

The study aimed to diagnose urban heat islands by means of land surface temperature (TST) values and spatialization of the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), comparing the intra-urban space and the surroundings of the city of Cajazeiras, Paraíba state. Images from Landsat 8 satellite, thermal infrared band (temperature) and red and near infrared bands (vegetation index) were used. With the results obtained it was observed that the highest values of temperature are present in the most central area of the urban perimeter, and the surroundings of the city, which contains more vegetated areas, presented milder temperatures.
