PORTO DE IMBITUBA COMO ELEMENTO RESULTANTE DO COMPLEXO CARBONÍFERO CATARINENSE: GÊNESE, DESENVOLVIMENTO E PANORAMA ATUAL

Abstract

The Port changed the way as the social life happened in Imbituba. Initially, the main economic activity of city was the whaling. But with the ascension of the carboniferous economic from Criciúma, the city was chosen for host a modern port for specialized movement of products, which caused the disappearance of the old forms of social organization. Thus, the proposal of article is understanding the development of Port and its nearby hinterland, considering the variation of its degree of dependence with the coal economy, besides understand the current moment of port and how it was influenced by the productive diversification in south of Santa Catarina. As a theoretical reference, this article used the category of Milton Santos’ socio-spatial formation, the perspective of Armen Mamigonian’s small mercantile production and the idea of André Cholley’s geographical combination. As result, a diagnosis was made about influence of the installation of the "coal port" in Imbituba, vector of attraction of the logistic apparatus of the activity on Imbituba and bordering region, as well as its restructuring in view of the dismantling of the coal economy.
