Abstract

The objective of this article is to discuss, theoretically, the concept of interpellation as an operation that elevates the individual to the condition of subject of Ideology, articulating it with the notions of Self and Subject of the Unconscious forged by psychoanalysis. As results, the ideas are reiterated that: a) interpellation subordinates, through appointment, the individual to social positions anchored in discursive formations, converting him or her into an ideological subject; b) this mechanism operates through discursive processes of alienation that mask, for the intimated subject, the relationship of subjection in which he finds himself, making him believe he is the subject of himself and the origin of his speech; c) the ideological subject approaches the instance of the Self, since both are based on imaginary identifications which provide the illusion of unity of being and the literality of meaning and d) the originality of the subject and its subjective condition would be linked to the subject of unconscious, which appears in the flaws of speech. In view of this, it is concluded that the subjects of ideology and the unconscious, when questioned, are subordinated to the field of language (the big Other), as both are effects of signifiers, one in the form of imaginary representations and the other from of the gaps in the discourse.
