The New Ejidal Cartography of Mexico

Resumo

The challenge of surveying half of the Mexican territory and generate 110 millions of cartographic products for the Program for Certification of Ejido’s Rights and Titling of Urban Plots (PROCEDE) has drove INEGI to developed a national program and to establish an infrastructure for the operative works needed to face the compromise of this project. This project will give the juridical certainty in the land tenancy which is the base to have continues growing of the Mexican country sidle. The new ejidal cartography of Mexico used in the certification’s actions of PROCEDE updates the cartography generated from 1917 until the end of the 80’s for the agrarian laws, as a result of the revolutionary movement occurred in the nation in the second decade of the century. Pursuing the goal of producing the cartography for the titling and certification provided by PROCEDE, has been designed and developed the Ejidal Mapping Information System (SICE) which spatial and numerical database contains very important information for the knowledge of the Mexican geography. SICE has implied a constant developing effort since its design in 1993 achieving now a better relation between the spatial and numerical data entering the system, a validation process that warranties the consistency of the data, diminution of the processing time and an optimization of the available hardware. The SICE modules characteristics, the most important aspects of the data processing, the use of them and the results up to now, are the issues of the present paper.
