Abstract

In this article we bring reflections on a popular education in health based on an ancestral and loving pedagogy, which dialogues with the liberating principles of Capoeira Angola. We emphasize the importance of a popular education in health that rescues in ancestral knowledge the values for an education that provides the decolonization of bodies and minds and the emancipation of subjects and collectivities. We recognize in the worldview of African philosophies and traditional Afro-indigenous-Brazilian peoples the directions for tracing the path towards authentic popular education that contributes to promoting health and curing the various illnesses caused by oppressive power structures such as racism, sexism, class inequalities and LGBT-phobia. It is a theoretical-experiential article that starts from both the different perspectives of scholars and popular masters, as well as from the experience with work at Association University of Amorous Ancestral Reconstruction (UNIRAAM), a school of popular education, which, is 15 years old, and develops formative works with audiences of different ages in Pelourinho, Historic Center of Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil.
