The desacralization of the Earth and ancestral catastrophe

This article is based on the book “Room of Eviction: Diary of a Favelada”, by Brazilian writer Carolina Maria de Jesus with the aim of complexifying the reverberations of what anthropology has called ancestral catastrophe, observing that throughout the work elements characteristic of the heritage of colonization are present, such as hunger, gender violence, death and frequent floods. The concept of ancestral catastrophe has fueled discussions about the reality experienced in contemporary times with extreme weather events, but what we seek to observe is its presence in the daily life on the banks of the Tietê River of an author who denounced the perversities of a society based on colonial values.
