The following article is an excerpt of my master’s degree dissertation, which main objective was to consider the presence of the concept of beauty in the school through a modern look. For this project, a selection and a re-arrangement of the data which arose from previous studies was done in order to give a bigger attention to the cultural transformations that change concepts, ways of doing and thinking about Art, and also teaching practices. Thus, it is necessary to revisit other historical periods and current information collected at schools in order to understand some aspects that surround the concept of art as well as Art as a school subject and, therefore, reflect on its current role in education. The research concludes that the subject Arts has autonomy to work with a specific knowledge in the classroom, and it has the potential to form individuals that are more emphatic, creative, discerning, and conscious of our times.
