This article brings to the scene the Grupo de Teatro São Gonçalo do Bação to discuss the relations that involve the creation and forms of existence of an amateur theatre group in a community context. After an initial research to discover amateur groups in the state of Minas Gerais, we elected this group to accompany the rehearsals, get to know more closely the community in which it was inserted, and conducted a Narrative Interview with the group's founder and director in order to get to know the meanders of the theatrical creation and the process of insertion in the community. We concluded with this research that amateur groups (re)exist and perform a powerful artistic work, inspiring and full of affection, being cultural agents necessary to strengthen the artistic and cultural field in which they are inserted. They have a strong local and national cultural policy and are important promoters of theatre in places where there is little or no artistic manifestation. The strength and resistance of a long group has shown that, in the collective, it is possible to exist and resist the time that frightens and hinders artistic creation.
