The growing circulation of mass-produced consumer objects, the rise of an aesthetic of the masses and of the “new rich” and the HIV crisis caused significant changes in the Buenos Aires art scene in the 1990s. In this context, this research aimed to articulate aspects of Omar Schiliro's art work with the adjectives and aesthetic categorizations attributed to it by the narratives woven around the Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas, the epicenter of Buenos Aires artistic productions in the period. To this end, we sought to associate aspects inherent to the artist's work, as the adjectives such as Light, Rosa and Guarango with the categorizations of kitsch and neo-baroque. Aspects such as fiction, simulation, excess, the dissident nature of his works, the scenographic content and the openness to diverse networks of meanings are key to this inscription of Schiliro's work in the category of neo-baroque.
