This paper, which renews the discussion about the Specific Skill Tests (SSTs), aims to survey published manuscripts in the annals of the Brazilian Music Education Association (ABEM) that focus on the music admission tests for undergraduate programs. For this purpose, we conducted a narrative review having as data source the online annals of ABEM’s regional and national congresses, and we were inspired by the Grounded Theory for data organization. From a total of 3317 published papers in the available annals, only nine brought the SST subject up. Results show that there are three types of manuscripts: narrative accounts, empirical research, and theoretical research, distributed in a balanced way. In addition, the excerpts that mention the SST account for: SST Organization; Historical description of the SST in the HEI; SST conceptualization; (Previous) training of the candidates to do the SST; SST adequacy for people with impairment. Eventually, it is worth to note that we found no manuscript that neither analyzed or debated the impact of the presence or absence of the SST in music higher education programs. We expect that our paper may instigate the discussion about SST in a scientific manner and offer some inputs for curricular decision making.
