This article deals with the subject of Brazilian identity in the music by Almeida Prado, demonstrating its presence in all his career, beyond the period known as nationalistic, 1960 through 1964. I discuss on significant events in the early 1960s, and also expand toward the other periods of his carreer. I comment his aesthetical positions, his activities in relation to Brazilian music, and I give examples of works of different periods. I use citations from texts by the composer, such as letters and interviews, and also an excerpt of a review published in the 1970s.
