The general objective of this article is to understand how the musical practices were constituted outside the music class in the spaces/time of the music conservatory. The spaces/time considered free were those in which the students performed their practices outside the music class, such as recess, free times, students' entrance and exit times, courtyard, corridors, among others. The method adopted was the case study, and the data collection procedures were observation and interview. This research is based on the idea of music as a social practice (SOUZA, 2004), in the theoretical principles of everyday life theories (SOUZA, 2000; PAIS, 2003), and the categories of time and space were based on Bollnow (2008), Tuan (2003) and Bourdieu (1997). The results indicate that students organize themselves in different ways to perform these musical practices, in planned and unplanned ways, individual and/or shared, and subsidized by musical performance and listening. The musical practices performed in spaces / free time of the music class are important actions in the context of this school, contributing to the understanding of the processes of teaching / learning music in this conservatory.
