This study investigates the effects of audience feedback on simultaneous interpreting from Portuguese into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) in conference settings. The research, a continuation of Barbosa (2020), was based on the analysis of audiovisual records of real-life interpretations and retrospective verbal protocols with interpreters. The results revealed different types of feedback — interrogative, confirmative, corrective, interactive, comprehension-related, negative, and presumed — each associated with specific effects such as increased cognitive effort, reformulations, additions, and omissions of information. The discussion focuses on the balance between maintaining the interpretive flow and the need for immediate correction in response to feedback, emphasizing the importance of constant monitoring of audience reactions and of training practices that prepare interpreters to handle real-time feedback (Pointurier-Pournin, 2014). The study contributes to reflections on conference interpreting, offering theoretical and practical insights for interpreter education and professional development.Downloads
