Old Dilemmas, New Representations
Considerations on Female Aging and Its Presence in Contemporary Brazilian Literature

The general objective of this study is to analyze the representations of female aging in contemporary Brazilian literature, focusing on narratives produced by women. The aim is to understand how female aging is addressed in these works, highlighting the changes and continuities in the perception of old age in comparison with previous literary productions. To this end, three specific objectives are proposed: 1) identify the predominant themes in the representations of female aging, 2) assess the characteristics of mature or old characters, observing their representations in literature and their gender dynamics, 3) examine the relationship of these characters with aging and their implications. The methodology is qualitative, with textual analysis of selected literary works, complemented by theoretical-critical texts that help understand the historical and sociocultural context of the narratives. The research is based on the references of Simone de Beauvoir (1990/2016) and Judith Butler (2003), among others.Downloads
