Resumen

O trabalho tem o objetivo de apresentar a variação espacial da produção agrícola na Região Metropolitana do RJ a partir da identificação dos produtos da agricultura urbana e periurbana de cada município da área de estudo. Na primeira parte, são apresentados o processo de operacionalização da pesquisa e a discussão teórico-conceitual, resultado do levantamento e exame bibliográfico. Posteriormente, é apresentada a área de estudo (Região Metropolitana - RJ) e, em seguida, os gráficos gerados a partir dos dados recolhidos nos Censos Agropecuários 1995/1996 e 2006. A variação espacial da produção agrícola na região metropolitana é resultado da dinâmica da cidade e da sua expansão sobre as áreas rurais. O crescimento da cidade do Rio de Janeiro e a conseqüente expansão de sua área edificada sobre seu entorno não foram capazes de converter toda área em uso urbano. Assim, a agricultura resiste ao avanço da urbanização e é parte de um processo dinâmico de contínua mudança espacial, gerado por uma situação de permanente conflito de interesses e disputas de áreas por usos urbanos e rurais, típicos nas áreas agrícolas da periferia metropolitana. lavras-chave: agricultura urbana, agricultura periurbana, interação rural-urbana, Região Metropolitana do RJ. SPATIAL VARIATION OF THE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION IN THE METROPOLITAN REGION - RJ ABSTRACT The objective of this work is to present the spatial variation of the agricultural production in the Metropolitan Region - RJ through the identification of products of urban and peri-urban agriculture in each municipio of the study area. Firstly, are presented the operationalization process of the research and the theoretical and conceptual discussion, which is the result of bibliography analysis. Afterward, the study area (Metropolitan Region - RJ) will be presented and then, the graphs which were created through a data collection in Agricultural Census of 1995/1996 and 2006. The spatial variation of the agricultural production in the Metropolitan Region is the result of city dynamics and its expansion over rural areas. The growth of Rio de Janeiro city and the consequent expansion of built-up area over its surroundings were not able to convert the entire area into urban use. Therefore, the agriculture resists to the urbanization progress and become as well, part of a dynamic process of continuous spatial change, created by a permanent situation of disagreement and disputes of areas by urban and rural uses, typical in agricultural areas on metropolitan periphery.
