The UFU Extension in connection with the purpose of the 2030 Agenda

Abstract

This text aims to discuss the evolution of Extension at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, in relation to the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, stemming from the global pact to address the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). It initially highlights how this call for collective collaboration has been urging Higher Education Institutions (HEI) based on the inseparability of people-planet-prosperity-peace-partnerships. Furthermore, with a focus on the role of universities, it demonstrates how Extension emerges as a foundational and central element with the strategic potential to contribute to these efforts. It seeks to show how the regulatory frameworks for Extension in Brazil and at UFU are directly related to the principles, values, objectives, and targets of this universal agenda. In summary, referencing the last two management cycles of UFU, 2017-2020 and 2021-2024, it highlights how UFU Extension has been developed in support of the SDG and how intentional governance and management proposals, centered in Extension, have been directed and implemented with remarkably successful results. Therefore, we will examine the achievements and impacts of UFU Extension in connection with the SDG.
