Abstract

Content analysis is a relatively common methodological tool in research in the broad area of music due to its specificities and precise guidelines for working with textual corpora of greater or lesser extent. This raises some questions: what are the actual functionalities of these software tools? How can we, as musicians and researchers, explore their applications to the fullest? How can we maintain rigor in all phases of the procedure if we do not fully understand how these technologies work? With these and other questions in mind, this article presents a section of a master's research project as a way to illustrate a methodological contribution to the field of content analysis within music and performance research.
