In this paper I reflect on the potential of the process drama as a source of methodological strategies to develop research with children in the context of performing arts. Through the articulation of autobiographical descriptions and analysis of experiences, I analyze how the participation in the project “Drama as a teaching method”, conducted by Beatriz Ângela Cabral in the nineties, influences my research practices in the post-doctoral project “Presence of Childhood in Contemporary Theatre ”developed at the State University of Campinas and at the City University of New York. In dialogue with authors from theater and sociology, I discuss issues related to the specificities of research in the performing arts, and the methodological challenges of researching theatre and childhood.
