The Brazilian Museum of Sculpture and Ecology (MuBE) presented the exhibition “Burle Marx: art, landscape and botany” on December 2018 through May 2019 in São Paulo. This article elabores on the central curatorial notions of the exhibit, which sought to present the artist’s legacy and broaden the understanding of his project for the gardens at MuBE. The show consisted of works by contemporary artists and photographers whose production is in dialogue with Burle Marx’s landscaping, paintings, sculptures, design and environment. This article mentions specimens collected in expeditions by Burle Marx and presented at the show, which paved the way for the discovery of new botanical species and contributed to the understanding of the Marx’s work as an amateur scientist and environmentalist. At MuBE, we reflected and collaborated to the interdisciplinary debate on the production of one of the most relevant artist, landscapist and ecologist of the 20th century.
