Abstract

“Conversations of refugees” is a visual essay that is based on testimonies from
immigrants and excerpts from the book of the same name writen by Bertolt Brecht,
originally published in 1961. The purpose of this essay is to establish a possible
dialogue between past and present. Therefore, I carry out a kind of montage, in
which image and word echo the same despair that plagues the crowds that roam
the world in search of shelter and food. Through painting, my body reconfigures
the records from different sources and gives them another existence. On these
images, the testimonies of some people who live in exile are written in their
respective languages. The excerpts in Portuguese are Brecht's words.
