Abstract

This work draws a brief comparative profile of the dramaturgical work Mary Stuart by Friedrich Schiller with the 2017 adaptation by Robert Icke, and with the Brazilian 2022 stage show directed by Nelson Baskerville, created from this adaptation. The basic differences are investigated in the historical interpretation of Mary Stuart and its reverberations in the political, social and cultural contemporaneity of Brazil. As a result, the reflection presents Schiller concerned with the sublime metrical perfection of his lyricism and the historical issues that involve the weaving of the monarch's character; Icke reveals the structures of misogyny in contemporary British society with his adaptation; and Baskerville parameterizes his show with Brazilian political-historical events on the issue of women in power and patriarchy, identifying the correspondence between the process of Mary Stuart's execution and Dilma Russeff impeachment.
