Abstract

Based on the understanding that the end of colonization did not mean the end of gender coloniality, the article reflects on the meaning of the two hundred years of independence of Brazil for women, with regard to the right to freedom, life and equality. The current numbers of gender violence, especially when intersected with other forms of discrimination, demonstrate the unequal position of women, less precious lives for the State and the long road still to be traveled towards the achievement of full citizenship.
