Abstract

This paper proposes a first analysis of the reception of Materialist Feminism in Argentina in the 1980s. During the dictatorship years, Alicia Lombardi and Silvia García read, translate and rework the materialist feminist perspective that comes from France in Questions Féministes and, later, Nouvelles Questions Féministes. During the period of democratic transition, these receptions were collectivized within the group ATEM (Association for Work and Studies on Women) “25 de Noviembre”, one of the feminist groups with the greatest projection in those years. We propose an analysis of some writings published in Brujas and, above all, of the work written by Alicia Lombardi. We show that this early reception of French materialist feminism, between La Plata and Buenos Aires, recovers central categories (oppression, social class of sex, domestic work, social motherhood) and gives rise to a reformulation that emphasizes the psychosocial aspects of sexist oppression.
