Abstract

The novel Adua, written by the Italian writer Igiaba Scego, discusses the experiences of a black, immigrant woman of Somali origin, in Italy. The novel features three segments, in which the reader respectively finds the voice of the main character Adua, her father’s story and her experiences as a child, mediated by her father’s voice. This article aims to analyse the third segment and to discuss how the interaction between father and daughter has an impact on the way the main character can narrate her identity and experience her body. The experiences in her childhood, in a way, will impact the way she interacts as an immigrant, in the first segment of the novel.
