Abstract

This opinion piece discusses the impacts of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) on contemporary audiovisual production, focusing on gender dynamics and representation. Starting from the premise that technology is not neutral, it argues that large language models and image and video generators tend to perpetuate historical stereotypes, masculinizing prestigious positions and hypersexualizing female bodies, in dialogue with feminist film criticism and social studies of technology. It argues that this bias stems from a specific socio-technical architecture, composed of unequal databases and homogeneous development teams, and proposes three paths towards inclusive AI: bias auditing as assisted authorship, ethical pluralization of databases, and transparency as a principle of use.
