Multiplying Receptions

This supplementary issue provides an approach of the Greek and Latin classics in a wide network of connections, putting together tradition, transmission, interpretation, and reception of Antiquity from an interdisciplinary perspective. It continues the thematic section proposed in v. 40, which, due to the large number of submissions, had to be unfolded into a separate issue. This time, we highlight the variety of possible approaches within the scope of classical reception. In this second Presentation, based on the works of Calvino (2007), Martindale (1993, 2013), and Hardwick and Stray (2008), we analyze different forms of classical reception (in literature, visual arts, and cinema, for example), emphasizing their multidisciplinary nature. We also investigate some of the latest developments and prospects for Classical Studies, taking into account reinterpretations of ancient works from modern theoretical perspectives. Finally, we offer some brief reflections on the potential connections between translation and reception of Greek and Latin classics.Downloads
