Abstract

The objective of this article is to describe the development and outcome of the application of translation activities in a classroom of an undergraduate English program at Universidade Federal de Campina Grande in the remote context due to COVID-19. The theoretical framework is related to the Functionalist Approach, Translation Strategies, Intersemiotic Translation and Culture. Two translation activities were created involving a news report and a short story. The outcome showed the interaction of the group of students as well as the discussions that grounded the translations produced considering specific contexts, translation strategies, and culture. Students’ reports reinforced the reflection that translation activities can be applied in classrooms of varied contexts, contributing to foreign language learning and improvement of the mother tongue.
