“Being and Seeming to Be” in The White Paper and The End of Eddy

Literature and other arts forms, as fertile grounds for the expression of subjectivities, are areas in which different LGBTQIA+ affinities tend to show themselves in their most diverse and varied nuances. In light of this, but focusing on male homosexuality, this article reports on a comparative analysis of two French novels: The White Paper, by Jean Cocteau, first published in 1928, and The End of Eddy, by Édouard Louis, first released in 2014. The objective is to establish their divergences and convergences drawing on Didier Eribon’s (2008) Insult and the Making of the Gay Self [Réflexions sur la question gay] and studies on homoerotic literature, such as Barcellos (2002) and Souza (2013).Downloads
