Résumé

Este artigo descreve as conquistas de um rol seleto de estudiosos que trouxeram avanços à área da História da Educação nos Estados Unidos. A evolução desse campo de pesquisa tem sido influenciada, desde 1830, pelas ideias e ações de profissionais célebres que contribuíram de diversas maneiras e em diferentes momentos da história do país. Alguns desses especialistas estabeleceram a História da Educação como um tema viável de estudo ou contribuíram para o seu ensino em cursos de pós-graduação e programas de formação de educadores. Outros apoiaram e estimularam uma investigação estruturada dentro dessa área ou facilitaram a disseminação de resultados de pesquisas por meio de publicações e espaços profissionais. A presente narrativa aborda o campo da História da Educação no contexto de suas tradições de ensino e de pesquisa, dando ênfase às contribuições de indivíduos e instituições que definiram e expandiram esse campo do conhecimento e ao papel que a educação teve no desenvolvimento da sociedade estadunidense.
