History
The scientific periodical Cadernos de História da Educação was created in 2002 in print format under ISSN 1807-3859. In 2008, it was made available in a version integrated also with electronic media through the OJS platform under ISSN 1982-7806. Since 2008, the periodical, in its on line version, has made the full version of all texts published available in open access. From 2002 to 2008, publication was annual. From 2009 to 2014, it was semestral. In 2015, the periodical came to be published three times a year. Also in 2015, it came to be published exclusively in electronic format. In 2014, Cadernos de História da Educação was classified on level A2 of Qualis/Capes (Area of Education). In 2015, the editorial and advisory (review) committees of the periodical were expanded, providing greater consistency to the international character of its members. The Brazilian dimension of the periodical was also expanded in terms of regional and state diversity. Thus, that which was already occurring in the articles published had a solid corresponding evolution in the composition of the editorial team of the periodical. In 2015, the periodical was chosen for digital preservation on the Rede Cariniana [Cariniana Network] (Ibict/MCT) and for filing in the Keepers Registry (The University of Edinburgh, Scotland; International Standard Serial Number - ISSN, Paris, France), which, evidently, collaborates in security of maintaining the digital archives of the periodical, but also highlights the importance that the scientific community assigns the periodical. In 2017, associate editors were established for the purpose of promoting the internationalization process of the periodical. Regarding Portuguese speaking countries, except Brazil, the associate editors are from Portugal, Joaquim Pintassilgo (Universidade de Lisboa) and Luís Alberto Marques Alves (Universidade do Porto). For Spanish speaking countries, the associate editors are from Spain, Antón Costa Rico (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela) and Miguel Somoza Rodríguez (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia). For English speaking countries, the associate editors are from the United States, Karl Lorenz (Sacred Heart University) and Noah W. Sobe (Loyola University Chicago). Finally, in 2018, the journal came to require that approved articles be published at least in bilingual versions, in the original language and in English, and when the original language is English, a version must be provided in Portuguese.

The opinions issued by the reviewers consist of four options: 1) accept, 2) accept with revisions, 3) submit to another journal, or 4) reject. However, when the opinions regarding the same study diverge, the submission is directed to a third and final reviewer. Based on these opinions, the members of the Editorial Board have the responsibility of deciding on the pertinence of publication in the periodical. The reviewers and the members of the Editorial Board proceed with analysis and evaluation of the submissions under the following criteria: I – Regarding content: submissions must be linked to the theme that identifies the periodical, History and Historiography of Education. II – The research and opinion articles must a) reflect the existence of a relevant problem, b) show advancement in reflection or in science, c) contain the author’s position regarding the theme in question, and d) have a maximum of 20 (twenty) single-spaced pages. III – The review a) can have up to 5 (five) single-spaced pages and b) should present a clear idea of the work, of its author, of the ideas contained in it, and the position of the reviewer and his/her recommendation or not of the work. IV – The submissions must exhibit consistency and clarity in presentation of the ideas, with logical connection between the main facts and arguments presented, taking into account the perspective of the ideal or possible reader of the periodical, with arguments and facts always presented in a clear and distinct manner, to more easily follow the discussion. V – At the discretion of the Editorial Committee, the appropriateness of publishing thematic issues or of requesting studies from respected authors in the area of History of Education will be evaluated. VI – The articles requested will be analyzed and evaluated by the Editorial Board of the periodical, which will indicate the pertinence of publication in accordance with the quality of the text. A mean time of three months has been sufficient for the process of analysis by reviewers, decision of the Editorial Board, and communication of the results to the author(s) regarding a submission to the periodical. Publication of the approved submission, for its part, has taken an average of twelve months, counting from the date of submission by the author(s).
