Idealismo, Pragmatismo e o Nascimento do pensamento educacional pragmatista na América

Resumo

Este trabalho articula algumas das contribuições históricas e as principais obras filosóficas do período transicional do pensamento educacional na América entre 1866 e 1895. Este é um período no qual o pensamento educacional se move do idealismo ao pragmatismo. Contemporâneo ao desenvolvimento do pragmatismo houve um desenvolvimento no pensamento educacional que acentuava o naturalimso, o funcionalismo e a natureza orgânica da mente e da conduta. O idealismo se situava não apenas como o pressuposto filosófico dominante do pensamento filosófico no período 1866-1895, como também reclamava ser o pressuposto filosófico dominante no pensamento educacional. Foi a primeira filosofia da educação americana e não foi pragmatista, foi idealista ainda que isso mudaria a partir da metade dos anos noventa. Assim como o pragmatismo começou a dominar a filosofia de fin de siècle, também o fez com as pressuposições filosóficas do pensamento educacional.
