Abstract

This article discusses how french director Jean Pierre-Melville worked with the concept of resistance in his film career through three different perspectives, breaking with the model of heroic celebration adopted by the film industry. From the analysis of the films le Silence de la mer (1949), léon Morin, prêtre (1961) and l’armée des ombres (1969), the aim is to discuss the concepts of passive resistance, non-resistance and active resistance during World War II in France from the narrative and aesthetic review of these feature films.
