Abstract

Understanding how the potentialities, limits and challenges to local territorial development for the solidary popular economy are configured from an experience with social currency in Uberlândia (MG) is the general objective of this article. The bibliographic research applied to a case study was the methodology. It was verified that the enterprise brings together values ​​and principles of the economy – popular and solidary. The Pólen social currency represents a potentiality, as it stimulates the entire production-marketing-consumption chain. However, challenges that occur within an existing hegemonic system represent limits, requiring a high degree of collective engagement.
