This article deals with the formal qualifications of the Brazilian workforce, specifically in the segment with higher education (11 to 15 years of formal education), observing the limits of formal education on the pattern of ascent or mobility of the Brazilian worker. The aspects observed are radically contrary to the so-called Human Capital Theory and demonstrate the ideological elements of the merit discourse. We also present the data and analysis of the Labor Qualification Index (IQT) in order to empirically demonstrate the fragility of the meritocracy discourse and the conditions of exploitation that permeate all segments of the workforce.
