Abstract

The set of tools provided by Google Earth ™ offers resources for mapping, importing and exporting geographic data and detailed 3D visualization of almost the entire Earth surface through high resolution satellite imagery and historical aerial photos. Combined, these tools offer great potential for research and teaching geomorphology, particularly by the 3D observation and landscapes dynamics over time. It may bring new perspectives of analysis as well as improvements in traditional methods already established by the academy. In this perspective, this article aims to present the historical background of the software creation, the observation and analysis tools available, their potential use in research and teaching Geomorphology as well as discuss experiences suggest reflections on new media in Geomorphology.
