THE PLACE AND THE NEIGHBORHOOD IN GEOGRAPHY SCHOOL: REFLECTING ABOUT TEACHING SITUATIONS IN A PERIPHERY SCHOOL IN UBELÂNDIA-MG (BRAZIL)

Abstract

This paper is a case study and to evaluate the development of research conducted with students in early grades of elementary school, from a study where they live, the Morumbi district in Uberlandia. A critical view of the process of spatial segregation permeated much of study and allowed students to understand the processes that result in situations of social inequality present in geographical context closer (your neighborhood). In the course of the studies were focused on some practical examples of work done with students in a class of fifth grade of elementary school, by analyzing images of the place for observations and comparisons, seeking to build knowledge on their social context. The work done - observation of photographs of the neighborhood in a chronological perspective, production of written reflections, observations of satellite imagery, field work around the school, production sketches, aimed at assisting students in reading and writing in geography, including this course as a means to nurture the understanding of actions and transformation of geographical space.
