Abstract

The use of cartography in the school context, can be seen as an auxiliary tool in the teaching and learning process, which has become increasingly necessary, initially due to cartographic literacy. Thus, there is a need to work on introductory concepts through didactic and playful activities developed in the classroom. However, we know that the reality is different, in short, cartography at school is still little explored. Thus, we aim to demonstrate, through practical activities, the importance of school cartography as an alternative to work with teaching content, more specifically geography, analyzing and diagnosing how much this assistive tool in the teaching and learning process could be used to improve and refine the geographic knowledge acquired by students in the first year of high school of the state school Professor Paulo Freire, located in the municipality of Baía Formosa-RN. The project took place in eight theoretical-practical moments, which resulted in highly relevant material and immaterial products. Thus, this article is divided into 3 parts: in the first part we present school cartography and cartographic language as a methodological genesis of geography contents, later we show the applicability of this theme in the state school Professor Paulo Freire in the municipality of Baia Formosa, and for end we bring our final considerations about the analyzes.
