Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the benefits that music may promote to the health of the Staccato Group members using a Likert scale questionnaire. The participants received an anonymous Likert scale questionnaire regarding how they assess their mental and general health after contact with music through the Staccato Group. The data were tabulated and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Most of the study participants (n = 27) reported experiencing stress (88.8%), anxiety (85.2%), and sadness (77.8%) with a certain frequency, and a substantial part of them informed that strongly or partially agree with the statements that Staccato Group reduced stress (77.7%) and sadness (81.4%). The respondents reported that the music group had a positive impact on quality of life (85.1%), welfare (96.3%), and social interactions (77.8%). Also, 40.7% of the respondents judged that the university music group was of great importance for their general health. This study can support the development of music extension groups in the university setting as a way to promote benefits to participants’ general and mental health and, consequently, reduce the impact of important disorders that affect public health.
