Abstract

Reading the book Education and Change in times of political-economic crisis in our country where we experience a persecution to public universities, with cuts in resources, attacks on their doings, the role of teachers, is to feed on resistance, social commitment, including the defense of democracy. The central theme of this book is change, one of the “generating themes” of Paulo Freire’s theoretical practice, in the work he reflects on the change from a society of the oppressed to a society of equals and the role of education and awareness in this process of change. Education and Change is composed of four chapters: Professional commitment to society; Education and the process of social change; The role of the social worker in the process of change and adult literacy and awareness. This text aims, thus, present contributions from this Freirean work to theory/practice/research in university extension.
