Abstract

The article highlights aspects observed in the development of the outreach activity “Performance practices with deaf students” (Práticas cênicas com alunos surdos). Based on a partnership between the Federal University of Santa Maria, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and the Elementary School of Special Education Dr. Reinaldo F. Cóser, the project seeks to develop theater workshops for students at the school. The activities seek to promote a space of artistic expression in which the participants can present and expand their creative abilities, reflecting on their environment through practices that engage the playful and the sensitive. With the interest in the development of creative skills, the activities are developed seeking the appreciation of the exchange of knowledges between the hearing academic-facilitating and the deaf students who use the Brazilian Language of Signals (LIBRAS). Thus, methodologies and procedures are highlighted to present as practices developed initially for and by hearings are transformed into the context of the audience of deaf students.
