Interfaces between university and community in the scope of outreach

regenerative agriculture, its social and environmental dimensions, and its impacts on vulnerable populations in the Immediate Region of Ituiutaba/MG

Abstract

This text will present reports on experiences resulting from the outreach project “Interfaces between university and community: regenerative agriculture, its social and environmental dimensions, and its impacts on vulnerable populations in the Immediate Region of Ituiutaba (MG)”, developed under Public Notice 01/2023, supported by the Extension Project Support Program of the State University of Minas Gerais (PAEx/UEMG), at the interface between UEMG (Ituiutaba Unit) and the Rotary State School. The actions carried out during the project were based on the principles of regenerative agriculture, that is, on the possibility of producing while recovering anthropized soils; as a basic principle, the reduction of chemical fertilizers and pesticides stands out; the preservation of the living roots of perennial crops; the use of tree species; the reduction of chemical fertilizers and pesticides associated with the protection and non-depletion of natural resources, completely eliminating the use of pesticides to create a sustainable environment for food cultivation. In general, these are alternative methods of food production, including sustainable resource management practices, such as soil and water. Community participation is understood here as an instrument for promoting autonomy and improving decision-making in their daily practices.
