Abstract

Sex education aims to instruct and clarify issues related to sexuality, without taboos or discrimination. Although it causes discomfort among young people, it is essential because it addresses topics such as condoms, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), anatomy, contraceptive methods, and pregnancy. This paper is an experience report by 4th-semester medical students from the University Center of the Associated Teaching Colleges (Unifae), who conducted an educational intervention with adolescents at a municipal school in São João da Boa Vista, state of São Paulo, Brazil. The action was aimed at 9th-grade elementary school students and 1st and 2nd-year high school students. The activity began with a questionnaire, followed by practical activities conducted at the university. At the end, another questionnaire was applied to assess the effectiveness of the intervention and adjust future actions. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge about sex education, STIs prevention, and contraceptive methods. The analysis of the responses revealed a consolidation of concepts and significant changes in understanding of the topics addressed. It was therefore concluded that structured educational interventions are effective, promote knowledge, and should be implemented in different contexts, contributing to the prevention of unplanned pregnancies and the strengthening of sexual health among adolescents.
