Abstract

Computational power for structural analysis has enabled more refined results and consequently more slender structures. This advance has brought a new reflections about the critical design parameters, wherever the dynamic analysis have become of major importance in quality and performance of the structures. The stays of cable-stayed bridges are very sensitive to vibrations and it requires almost always dampers for dynamic control. This study presents the difference between the behavior of a cable subjected to vibrations without damping and with intrinsic damping, wherever it showed an increase in the damping efficiency according to raise the frequency.
