Women’s depictions in southern Portugal’s “lime arts”

Abstract

Through Art, woman knew different forms of representations, which obeyed specific historical contexts and social or cultural impositions. This resulted in an extraordinary diversity of morphologies and meanings, which lasted for centuries, reaching knew ways of expression through traditional decorative techniques (such as mural painting or stuccoes). In this text we will analyze some of the main morphologies of female representation through the “lime arts”, in the south of Portugal.
