Abstract

This paper consists in selecting excerpts of queer themed fanfiction written in English and proposing solutions for their translation to Portuguese, along with comments on the possible effects of meaning that may be obtained. An analysis of the translations proposed for the eight discursive sequences targets the possible slips that may occur and highlight what they may imply to the reception of the queer Brazilian community. The analysis criteria were the presence of queer cultural references and the use of terms such as 'gay', 'gayness', 'lesbian', and 'lesbianity'. Based on the examples analyzed, it is concluded that the solutions proposed for the translations present possible means for reproducing the queerness of the source text in the target text, making these elements visible to the target reader in an attempt to assure that their queerness is not lost in translation.
