From the Music Video to the Novel

Intermediality in the High School Literature Classroom

Abstract

Teaching literature in high school is a rewarding and challenging job that needs to be combined with research and constant updating by teachers. Drawing on this premise, and based on experience in the classroom, this article seeks to show how the use of intermediality, as defined by Clüver (2006), can be an efficient didactic strategy, as the author deals with the intertextual relations that permeate all artistic languages. The corpus uses the video clip of song Amor, I love you (2000), by Marisa Monte and Carlinhos Brown, and the reading of an excerpt from the work O primo Basílio (1878), by Eça de Queirós, in addition to what Tereza Colomer and Rojo (2009) point out respectively about the different possibilities of approximation with the literary text and about the need to associate, whenever possible, the written verbal text with other forms of expression.
