This paper aims to reflect on the cinematographic documentary as a place of speech. Aiming at a strand of films with marginalized characters, the films present themselves as a space for disputing narratives in society, helping subordinate subjects to occupy visible places and offering their own stories in friction to dominant narratives, which are capable of fabricating exclusion of social groups. Thus, we seek to understand this process from the documentary Meu nome é Jacque, which brings a narrative about a transsexual woman, told by herself. An analysis of the film was performed illuminated by the reflections about the place of speech, resistance, speech and representativeness. Documentary, therefore, is considered as a strategy of resistance to subvert historically constructed power relations, such as transgender people.
