This article is an extract of a PhD dissertation that discussed daily language practices of four inhabitants of Alter do Chão village, a touristic village situated in Western Pará, Brazil. We address how language is used and appropriated by the participants who live in the village, a multilingual and multicultural scenario, but where the Portuguese language holds the status of official language. As a study within Applied Linguistics, it depicts, through ethnography, how the four participants constitute themselves through locally situated discourses in relation to their multilingual interactions, negotiating and making meaning in specific communications. The data analysis, generated mainly through participant observation, interviews and informal talks, points to how the participants use all their linguistic and semiotic resources in order to carry on an effective communication, merging languages and highlighting creativity and protagonism.
