Resumen

Este artículo describe las conquistas de un selecto grupo de estudiosos que trajeron avances al área de la Historia de la Educación en los Estados Unidos. La evolución de este campo de investigación ha sido influenciado, desde 1930, por las ideas y acciones de profesionales célebres que contribuyeron de diversas maneras y en diferentes momentos de la historia del país. Algunos de estos especialistas establecieron la Historia de la Educación como un tema de estudio viable o contribuyeron para su enseñanza en cursos de posgrado y programas de formación de educadores. Otros apoyaron y estimularon una investigación estructurada dentro de esa área o facilitaron la diseminación de resultados de investigación por medio de publicaciones y espacios profesionales. La presente narrativa aborda el campo de la Historia de la Educación en el contexto de sus tradiciones de enseñanza e investigación, dando énfasis a las contribuciones de individuos e instituciones que definieron y expandieron ese campo del conocimiento y al papel que la educación tuvo en el desarrollo de la sociedad estadounidense.
