Laços de afeto e comércio de escravos. Angola no século XVIII

Resumo

O texto tem como foco os poderosos grupos de comerciantes de Luanda no século XVIII. A abordagem tem como ponto de partida algumas famílias formadas a partir da união entre as mulheres africanas e homens portugueses recém-chegados a aquele litoral. Os conjuntos de parentes incorporavam os novos membros pela estratégia dos matrimônios e criavam laços de compadrio para garantir o acesso ao poder local e às rotas comerciais entre litoral e interior. Parentesco, amizade e fidelidade ao grupo eram alguns dos ingredientes que articulavam poder e comércio. Para a análise, utilizo a documentação que consolida os laços de parentesco e de amizade, que são os registros de casamento, de batismo e os testamentos. ABSTRACT: The text focuses on the powerful groups of merchants in Luanda in the eighteenth century. The approach has as its starting point some families formed from the union between African women and Portuguese men newcomers to these coasts. The sets of relatives incorporated new members through the strategy of marriage and created bonds of friendship to ensure access to local powzer and trade routes between the coast and inland. Kinship, friendship and loyalty to the group were some of the ingredients that articulated power and trade. For the analysis, I use the documentation that strengthens the ties of kinship and friendship, which are the records of marriage, baptism and wills.
